friendship park sports complex
The Friendship Park Sports Complex project will renovate and modernize an existing park to better serve a broader segment of our community, including older children and those with disabilities. The project will complement the existing play structures at Friendship Park with additional outdoor activities for young children, teens, and adults alike.
At the end of the project, the park will provide to the community updated tennis and basketball courts and ADA-compliant restroom facilities. In addition, there will be newly-developed amenities that include two pickleball courts and a skate and bike park with a pump track.
Needs and benefits:
- The project is needed to fill an urgent gap in opportunities for teenage youth to recreate and socialize in our community, in a space that is accessible, safe and integrated with recreational and social activities for other ages
- This need was identified through a petition from youth, as well as in-person and virtual meetings, and written expressions of need and interest.
- The project will benefit our community by augmenting our existing children’s park with ADA accessible restroom facilities, expanding our existing park to include recreational activities for older children who currently lack local opportunities for outdoor recreation and socializing, and it will benefit our community by repairing and updating facilities for adults and seniors to recreate and socialize as well.
- The other urgency addressed by our project is to rectify the non-ADA compliant restroom facilities at our existing children’s park.
